FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SHORT ANSWERS.
NO ASTERISKS.

When can I download it?

Not yet — Wattsoever is in active development, and this site is deliberately ahead of the first release. Installers for Windows, macOS and Linux will appear on the download page the moment the first version is tagged. No waitlist, no newsletter — just check back.

Is it really free?

Yes. No account, no subscription, no ads, no trial period, no data sold — it's a free hobby project. The planned Strava and Komoot integrations would use assisted sign-in on those services.

Which trainers are supported?

Any trainer or bike that sends power over BLE FTMS: smart trainers get ERG and gradient control, bikes with a manual resistance knob ride with power and cadence only. Behavior varies by model and firmware; no device has been validated on hardware for this build yet. Check the compatibility notes as testing progresses.

Does it work offline?

After a GPX route has imported successfully, the saved route and workout can be ridden without internet. The import itself needs a connection for elevation data. The map works offline in areas you have already viewed; elsewhere the view falls back to a tile-free 2D route drawing. Details in the offline notes.

Windows warns about an “unknown publisher”. Is the download safe?

The builds aren't code-signed yet (certificates cost money; signing is planned), so SmartScreen can't verify a publisher and warns once. Click “More info → Run anyway”. Only download from wattsoever.cc — installers are built automatically from tagged source on GitHub's build machines.

macOS says the app “cannot be opened”.

Same reason — unsigned build, and the fix is needed exactly once. Up to macOS 14: right-click the app → Open → Open; on macOS 15: open it once, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → “Open Anyway”. Details on the download page.

Does it run on Intel Macs?

Not yet — the macOS build is Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) only for now.

Can Zwift or the Wahoo app run at the same time?

They can watch, but not steer: trainers accept several connections, yet only one app controls resistance — the last one to send a command wins. For clean rides, close other training apps.

My trainer isn't found. What now?

The usual fixes, in order: spin the pedals to wake it, close Zwift/Wahoo/other apps, remove the trainer from your OS Bluetooth settings (never pair it there) and, on Ubuntu, add yourself to the bluetooth group. More in troubleshooting.

Where is my data stored?

On your disk, and nowhere else: rides as standard FIT files plus a local database, profiles as local settings. Uninstalling doesn't delete your rides. Nothing is uploaded unless you trigger a Strava upload yourself.

Can I use my phone as a display?

Planned. The current app serves its cockpit on the same computer; a future local-network mode could show it on a phone or tablet over your Wi-Fi.

How do updates work?

Download and run the latest installer — it replaces the app, your profiles and rides stay. An in-app update notice is planned.

Is the source code available?

No — Wattsoever is closed source and non-commercial, and the license is “all rights reserved”; the app is simply free to use. Installers and release notes will be published on the download page.
