FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

SHORT ANSWERS.
NO ASTERISKS.

Where can I download it?

WATTSOEVER 26.0 is available on the download page for Windows, Apple Silicon Macs and Ubuntu. Download only from wattsoever.cc. It is free and needs no account.

Is it really free?

Yes. WATTSOEVER is a free hobby project with no account, subscription, ads or trial period. Your data is not sold. Assisted Strava upload is implemented: the app selects your FIT and fills the activity details; you review and save on Strava. Routes from Komoot and other services can be imported as GPX files.

Which trainers are supported?

Trainers and bikes that report power through BLE FTMS are supported. ERG and gradient control depend on the device's reported capabilities; a read-only bike needs manual resistance changes. The developer reports stable Bluetooth and good trainer feel in regular rides; model and platform coverage is still limited. ANT+ and separate Cycling Power/CSC sensors are not supported. See the compatibility notes.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Included and successfully imported routes work offline in a 2D route view. A complete background map and 3D views need internet, as do Strava and custom map services. Import new routes before going offline. See the offline notes.

Windows warns about an “unknown publisher”. Is the download safe?

Public publisher signing is not configured. SmartScreen may warn because the downloaded installer has no established reputation. Only proceed with a download you trust; system policy may prevent an override. Only download from wattsoever.cc.

macOS says the app “cannot be opened”.

Public signing and notarization are not configured. Try opening the app once; if you trust the download, use System Settings → Privacy & Security → “Open Anyway”, then confirm Open. A new version may prompt again. Details on the download page.

Does it run on Intel Macs?

Not yet. The macOS build is Apple Silicon (M1 and newer) only for now.

Can Zwift or the Wahoo app run at the same time?

Close other training apps before riding. Connection limits and control arbitration vary by trainer, and competing apps can prevent connection or interfere with resistance control.

My trainer isn't found. What now?

The usual fixes, in order: spin the pedals to wake it, close Zwift/Wahoo/other apps, remove the trainer from your OS Bluetooth settings (never pair it there) and, on Ubuntu, check BlueZ and your user’s Bluetooth permissions. More in troubleshooting.

Where is my data stored?

Rides, profiles and history, custom workouts and saved routes live on your disk. Settings → DATA opens the FIT folder; see data locations and backup. Uninstalling leaves your data in place. Connecting Strava or opening an upload contacts Strava, including the optional after-ride setting; you review and save there. Maps, missing elevation tiles and enabled update checks also contact their providers. See privacy.

Can I use my phone as a display?

No. WATTSOEVER runs in its own desktop window on Windows, Ubuntu and macOS, with windowed and fullscreen modes.

How do updates work?

The app checks for a published update at startup; you can turn this off or use CHECK NOW in Settings. An available update opens a LATER / DOWNLOAD prompt when no ride is running. Download the installer, close WATTSOEVER, then install it. Profiles and rides stay in the data folder; updates never install automatically.

Is the source code available?

No. WATTSOEVER is closed source and non-commercial, and the license is “all rights reserved”; the app is simply free to use. Installers and release notes will be published on the download page.
